Overture Maps
An open map dataset of roads, buildings, places, addresses and boundaries, released monthly in one schema by the Overture Maps Foundation.
Overture Maps is an open map dataset published by the Overture Maps Foundation, a group of companies that work on shared map data under the Linux Foundation. It combines OpenStreetMap with other open and commercial sources and describes everything in one schema, organised in six themes: addresses, base, buildings, divisions, places and transportation. A new release comes out every month.
Two things make it different from downloading OpenStreetMap directly. Each feature has a stable ID that stays the same from one release to the next, so you can track changes and join your own data to it. And the data is published as GeoParquet files in cloud storage, so you can query only the area and feature type you need instead of downloading a whole country.
For routing, the transportation theme is the part that matters. It describes the network as segments, the lines that make up roads, paths and railways, and connectors, the points where segments meet. GOAT uses Overture as one of the sources for its Catalog. Since version 3.0, the Overture format is also the format for routing networks you upload yourself: a ZIP file with segments.geoparquet and connectors.geoparquet.
